4/27/2023 0 Comments PhyllisI have completed all the images for "Between the Lines: Portraits and Stories of Older Adults"! Thanks to my writer colleague, Laurel Sproule, the stories are complete and posted in the adjacent section here!
I just returned from presenting the project at the Canadian Gerontologic Nurses conference in Niagara Falls. It was so exciting sharing the portraits on huge screens! I have decided to share one portrait weekly. You can find the corresponding story by clicking on "Between the Lines" at the three small bars upper left. Meet Phyllis; born Lemmon, South Dakota 1932; six children. She is pleased to have gotten old, because being 90 has given her a chance to reflect and learn.

4/2/2023 0 Comments Network Declaration! We know older adults want to age in the community. I want to age in place! We need to rally together in voice and action to create a unified community based senior serving sector to support that goal. This sector provides the resources that meet the needs of people other than medical needs. Often, the healthcare sector is called upon to deliver or at least connect people to things like housing, food and transportation. But these resources live in the community. The sectors need to talk to each other and collaborate to create efficiencies to maximize on scarce resources. In other words, we need to change the way we work together.
The Network Declaration was created to generate awareness and action to this end: https://www.seniorscouncil.net/network-declaration Join the movement, talk to your neighbors, your MLA's and MP's. Lets make it happen so we can all age better together!!! |
