6/21/2023 0 Comments EdEd was teaching before he became a teacher. H e is a life long learner and educator. At 87, he continues to lift weights and train people to do it as well (safely) ! A great example for dismantling the ageist stereotype that haunts this generation. Follow your heart until it stops ticking;)
6/14/2023 0 Comments Terry R.A man with many layers: inventor, businessman, widow, father, grandfather, genealogist, fiddler, singer. Excuse me if I have referred to Lynn Segal in the past but her writing resonates with me and my experience with the sitters in "Between the Lines". She states that the more we age, the more access we have to all the 'baggage' of our past, to all the selves we have been or imagine ourselves to have been.
Terry had stopped doing his genealogy research but after the sitting he shared that somehow his passion for it had returned;) 6/7/2023 0 Comments Doug Doug has had a very accomplished and layered life. At 94 he reflects: "We must reach out to one another in whatever way is possible. Opening our hearts is the beginning of a culture of peace." A great example of some of the important developmental work that can be achieved during the last stage in life. Contrary to popular belief, the last stage may very well be the most important as far as becoming a whole person. Ageing is not linear; it is fluid. When we grow old, we have access to all the selves we have been and experiences we have learned from. We are able to move freely between childhood and every stage in life. The World Health Organization has deemed this is the decade of Healthy Ageing. This week is Seniors Week in Edmonton. There is much to reflect on and celebrate. My project, "Between the Lines" is up at the Woodcroft Library for the summer. Thursday, June 8 from 4-6 p.m. I will be in the program room to talk about the project and engage people in conversation about ageing and ageism. See you there!!!! |
